2 NYC Firefights Accused of Setting Fire to a Firestation

Michael Izzo and Richard Capece are New York City firefighters may truly qualify as dumbasses if they really did what they are accused of. These two firefighters are accused of setting a fire at a city firehouse last weekend.

The two smart guys were arrested on suspicion of using a flammable liquid to set a door on fire at the Manhattan station early Saturday. Though they don't work at that firestation, aren't they all supposed to be brothers? They both face felony charges of arson, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief. Good job guys, nice way to set an example for all of those kids playing with matches.

Teacher Arrested for DUI at Five Times the Legal Limit at Lunch Time!

According to reports, UK supply teacher Karen Howard, 44, started drinking the night before and doesn't really remember how much booze she had before cops picked her up driving at lunch time. One thing they do know: her blood alcohol content was nearly 5 times the legal limit. Not sure how much that is exactly in the UK< but in the US it would be around .40 % (the legal limit in most states is .08%) a point at which most folks are comatose or dead . . . but usually not behind the wheel. Supply teacher Karen Howard, 44, gave one of the highest alcohol readings ever seen by a city court – a level described by the judge as “phenomenal”.
Defending solicitor John Young said his client, from Roath, Cardiff, had not committed any traffic offence while driving but added: “In all the years I’ve been practising, to have a reading this high – I certainly have not come across it.
“The drinking had been from the night before. She’d been to a choir rehearsal. After that rehearsal there was a private function where she remained until 1.30am. She’s uncertain about how much she did drink.
“She did have a lift home that night. She said the next morning that she wasn’t hungover.
“She was dumbfounded when she was stopped. She didn’t realise the significance of the reading until I told her.
“She says she has no drink problem. We appear to have an instance of someone who had an excessive amount to drink the night before, and felt fit to drive. She said she did have control of the car.

Cops: Man Drove Drunk Wrong Way Down Street With Toddler in Car - Steven J. King

Okay, it wasn't THAT Steven King, but this guy could very well be our first Quadruple Dumbass: drunk, driving, with an unrestrained child in the car, going the wrong way down the street in a vehicle with no license, registration and a license plate from a different car. Okay, at least a Triple Dumbass there. Here's more from the Record Online:

A Downsville man was indicted yesterday on charges that he drove drunk, heading the wrong way on Route 17, with his 2-year-old daughter unrestrained in the back seat of the car.
According to court papers, Steven J. King, 40, had an open, 24-ounce container of Bud Light with him when police stopped him shortly after 11 p.m. on Sept. 30, as he drove west in the eastbound lanes of Route 17 in the Town of Liberty.
His daughter was in the back seat of the Chrysler, but she wasn’t in a car seat – or even buckled with a seat belt.
According to court papers, King was drunk, wasn’t wearing a seat belt, the car was uninsured, the inspection had expired in May, and the license plates on it belonged to a 1987 Ford.
King was indicted on counts of reckless endangerment, driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, felonies; and several traffic infractions. He remains in Sullivan County Jail without bail, pending action in Sullivan County Court.

Principal Accused of Having "Inappropriate Relationship" With Boy, 14 - Principal Cimberli Johnson, Ryan Middle School

Forget having sex with one of your teachers: the new hotness is getting it on with the principal . . . allegedly. Here's more from the Houston Chronicle:

HISD (Houston Independent School District) officials and Fort Bend County sheriff's deputies are investigating allegations of an inappropriate relationship between a middle school principal and a 14-year-old student.
Ryan Middle School Principal Cimberli Johnson, 33, was temporarily reassigned Wednesday to a central office position, pending the outcome of the investigations, said Abelardo Saavedra, superintendent of the Houston Independent School District.
The teen's grandmother, who is not being named to protect the boy's privacy, said she gave him permission to spend the night at Johnson's home in the Mission Bend community on two occasions earlier this month. The grandmother said she mistakenly believed another adult would be present during the overnight visits.
The teen stayed at Johnson's home longer than he should have, his grandmother said. He returned home carrying a cell phone that he said was a gift from Johnson, the grandmother said. The teenager has said nothing sexual occurred while he was with Johnson, but his grandmother said she's not convinced.

Lauren Michelle Cosgrove Update: Teacher/Babysitter Arrested Again for Trying to Contact Victim, 13

When last we left Lauren Michelle Cosgrove, a former English teacher in Denton, Texas at Strickland Middle School, she had been arrested after admitting to an affair with a male student, 13, who she was babysitting for during the summer. As part of her pre-trial arrangement, Cosgrove was not supposed to have any contact with the alleged victim for obvious reasons. Oops. Here's more from the Dallas Morning News:

A former Denton middle school teacher was back in jail Wednesday accused of trying to contact the 13-year-old boy she admitted having a sexual relationship with last summer. Cosgrove, who is married with two small children, admitted to the relationship, according to the documents, and was told she would be allowed a couple of days to get her affairs in order before surrendering to police.
Detective Shane Kizer said Cosgrove was admonished not to contact the boy. But two days later, one of the boy's friends called him and began trying to talk to him about the case. The victim handed the telephone to his mother, Kizer said, and she learned from the friend that Cosgrove had asked him to set up a three-way call so she could talk to the boy without her number appearing on caller ID.
"She wanted to tell him what to say to make things better for her in court," Kizer said.
Because the victim and his family were suffering from intense publicity in the case, they agreed it would be better not to file more charges just then, he said.
"But there are circumstances that point to her trying to contact him on the Internet," Kizer said. "And about two weeks ago, she called his cellphone."
Kizer said the call upset the boy, who no longer wants to be contacted by Cosgrove. At that time, Kizer decided to file the charge of tampering with a witness.

TV News Reporter Arrested for Bringing Loaded Gun to School - Jeff Weinsier, WPLG-ABC 10

Once again, we have to remind readers that if a cops asks you nicely to do something, you should probably do it. Jeff Weinsier, an investigative reporter with WPLG-ABC 10, could have used that advice yesterday when he went to Miami Central High School to do a story about school violence. The HE became the story. Here's more from Local 10:

A television reporter investigating a story on school violence was arrested Tuesday for carrying a loaded gun onto school property, authorities said.
Jeff Weinsier, an investigative reporter with WPLG-ABC 10, was taken into custody at Miami Central High School after ignoring several warnings not to walk on school property, Miami-Dade schools police said.
"Kindly, go across the street now," an officer is shown telling Weinsier during the videotaped encounter. "I'm not," Weinsier replied. The officer then handcuffed him.
Weinsier, 40, was charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds, trespassing on school property with a weapon and resisting officers without violence.
The photographer working with Weinsier, Frank Debesa, said afterward: "Jeff did have a gun on him."
Weinsier began carrying a gun after he received death threats stemming from a series he did about unsanitary conditions at local restaurants, the station said.

Boy, 8, Calls 911 to Report Drunk Driving Mom - Paulette Lynn Spears, Vancouver

Ah yes, another Mother of the Year Finalist and possible Dumbass of Year contender by the name of Paulette Lynn Spears (no relation to Britney, other than her parenting skills, apprently.) Ms. Spears was arrested last week for drunk driving. That's not unusual, but how she got caught is: her son, 8, called cops from the car to turn in his own mother. An 8-year-old boy riding in a car with his mom called 911 several times to report that she wasn't "acting normal," leading to her arrest for investigation of drunken driving and other charges, authorities said.
Paulette Lynn Spears, 33, was arrested Saturday after she drove to a fire station and said she had a medical problem.
Guided by her son's description of what he could see from the car, as well as by global positioning technology to track the phone calls, deputies arrived at the station less than a minute later.
"He said 'I don't know where we are, and Mom's not acting normal,'" sheriff's Sgt. Randon M. Walker said.
At one point, Spears took a cellular telephone from the boy, told the dispatcher not to worry and hung up, Walker said. The boy called back, and again his mother cut short the call, Walker said.
"The mother kept interrupting the 8-year-old," he said. "It happened at least twice."
At one point, Walker said, Spears apparently bit the boy's hand to get the telephone away from him.
Four minutes before the boy's first call, dispatchers had received a report of car that matched the description of Spears' car being driven erratically.

Man at Bus Stop Offers Girl, 11, Cash For Lap Dance - Horacio Benitez

Here's a good rule of thumb: don't offer an girl money for a lap dance if she's too young to know what that is! At right, the mug shot of one Horacio Benitez, who told cops that he ". . . has had thoughts about having sex with young children, but that he has never acted on those thoughts." A Fort Pierce man was arrested Thursday after police said he approached an 11-year-old girl at a bus stop and offered to pay her money for a lap dance. Horacio Benitez, 20, of 2007 N. 51st Circle in Fort Pierce, was arrested Thursday and charged with solicitation to commit lewd molestation and attempted child abuse.
According to a police report, Benitez admitted to police that he showed the girl an undisclosed amount of cash and asked her for a lap dance while she waited for her school bus to arrive. Police said the girl told investigators that she did not know what a lap dance was.
During an interview after his arrest, Benitez allegedly told police that he has had thoughts about having sex with young children, but that he has never acted on those thoughts, according to the report.

Hot Blonde Home School Teacher Arrested for Sex With Boy, 14 - Merideth Johnson Vincent, 40

A Van Nuys teacher was arrested on suspicion of having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old boy, police said Friday.

According to police, Merideth Johnson Vincent, 40, was arrested on Thursday at about 3 p.m.

Vincent is a teacher of a private home schooling group, KNBC's Laurel Erickson reported.

Police said Vincent was allegedly molesting the boy during the past several months. He was part of her home schooling group, according to police.

Woman, 26, Arrested Five Times in Six Months for DUI - Tiffany Adamo

We doubt this is a record of some kind (we know of one guy who was arrested three times in one day for DUI) but it does make you wonder what Tiffany Adamo of Le Mesa, CA is thinking. And this last arrest was a real winner. Here's more from SignOnSanDiego.com:

An aspiring emergency medical technician has been arrested five times in six months on suspicion of drunken driving, including three times in last month.
Tiffany Adamo, 26, was arrested Saturday afternoon in a shopping center parking lot of this east San Diego suburb after she pinned a 7-year-old boy between her 2000 Toyota Camry and her mother's car, police said. The boy was not seriously hurt.

It came three days after the Ramona woman was arrested when police found her passed out behind the wheel and blocking traffic, said La Mesa police Lt. Alan White. It was Adamo's third arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence in the suburb since Sept. 27.

The California Highway Patrol and the San Diego County Sheriff's Department have also arrested her on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Efforts by The San Diego Union-Tribune to contact Adamo's attorney were unsuccessful. No one immediately responded to a phone message from The Associated Press seeking comment from a Tiffany Adamo in Ramona.

Her grandfather told the newspaper that she had been pursuing a job as an emergency medical technician.

"Everyone who meets her just loves her to death," said John Adamo.

Female Band Teacher Arrested for Sex With Boy, 17 - Jessica Ashley Kahal

She's only five years older than the alleged victim, but for Jessica Ashley Kahal, a former band teacher at Helix High School in Californian, it might as well have been 15. She's been arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with the boy, and as a teacher that's a no-no. Here's more from SignOnSanDiego:

Jessica Ashley Kahal, 22, turned herself in to officers about 11:30 a.m. at the police station with her attorney present.
Kahal resigned from the charter school on Oct. 5, after Douglas D. Smith, the school principal, began investigating her relationship with a 17-year-old boy, police and school officials said.
A teacher from another school told Smith about the relationship, said police Lt. Allen White. A school resource officer then interviewed the boy, a senior, who said he and Kahal had sex about five times in the past two months at various locations in the county, police said.
Police detectives who took over the investigation said they also interviewed other witnesses. In the meantime, Kahal resigned from the school and moved out of the county, police said.

Veteran BBC Announcer Suffers "Wardrobe Malfunction" on Air - Terry Wogan

Wow! How does the cameraman or the guys in the control room miss something like that staring back at you? Here's more from The Daily Mail (A still from the show is at the bottom of this post):

It's difficult to say who was squirming the most - Terry Wogan or the TV viewers.

The BBC veteran presented Sunday's Points of View in a pair of moleskin trousers which clung relentlessly to a certain area and left little to the imagination.

The corporation has received a flurry of complaints about 69-year-old Sir Terry's wardrobe malfunction.

And there was speculation that he might be forced to report on the widespread dismay in the next edition of the audience feedback programme - not to mention Auntie's Bloomers, his show featuring TV faux pas.

Viewers were initially placed at ease when the avuncular Irishman appeared on screen in jacket, shirt and tie for the teatime show - well before the 9pm watershed.

But then the camera panned down to reveal mustard-coloured slacks which offered him little in the way of, ahem, support and evoked memories of sprinter Linford Christie's infamous 'lunchbox'.

Even Sir Terry's most ardent female fans appear to have found the experience a little unsettling, if the BBC's on-line message boards are to be believed.

One said: "I have just watched Points of View with my daughter and my husband. When the camera panned out on Terry Wogan, I didn't know where to look.

"Both my daughter and I (who are in no way prudish) were totally embarrassed to see Terry with very revealing trousers on. I'm sure we can't have been the only ones to notice."

Drunk Mom Arrested for Dangling Son, 5, Outside Moving SUV - Christina Adams

There are several versions of this story floating around, but basically it appears that Mother of the Year candidate Christina Adams was in the passenger seat of an SUV on the way home from some kind of carnival, when witnesses say the vehicle she was in stopped and she placed her 5-year-old son outside the passenger window and made him run alongside the moving vehicle. Cops were called, Adams was arrested, but not before she got belligerent with the officers. Yeah, that always helps. My favorite part of the story is where the cops say, "She was not tested to find out what her level was, but we are pretty sure she was under the influence of alcohol at the time." Ya think? Plus, she has one of those great "I'm Being Arrested?" mug shots. (right)

A Pinellas Park mother remained in jail Thursday afternoon on $5,000 bond after police said she held her 5-year-old son outside of an SUV because he was causing a disturbance.

The incident began just before midnight Wednesday on 43rd Street North in Pinellas Park and ended with the arrest of 27-year-old Christina Adams.

Witnesses said they watched in shock as Adams at some points forced the child to run beside the car to keep up.

"To hang a child out of a moving vehicle like that is absurd," witness Victor Concepcion said. "Just holding the baby out of the window and I was like 'Oh no ... no ... no.'

"So I walked out to the end of the street. They stopped the truck. She sets the kid down and grabs the kid's hand. They start driving away again and the kid's running, trying to keep up with the vehicle."
Minutes after Concepcion called 911, Pinellas Park police arrived at the corner of 66th Avenue and 43rd Street North.

"It was dispatched out to officers in the area to be on the lookout for a vehicle that had a child hanging from the outside of the passenger window," captain Sanfield Forseth of the Pinellas Park police said.

"The cops had stopped them," Concepcion said. "She got out and she was urinating on the side of his car and she was screaming and yelling obscenities."

After questioning Concepcion and another witness, police arrested Adams. She's charged with felony child abuse.

"She was not tested to find out what her level was, but we are pretty sure she was under the influence of alcohol at the time," Forseth said about Adams.

British Man Given Stiff Sentence for Email Pictures of His Erect Penis to Female Business Contacts

A man who claims he accidentally sent pictures of his erect penis to female business contacts including his recruitment consultant and employer has been sentenced to six months imprisonment.
Joseph Reed-Mooney, 27, of no fixed address, sent two of the messages from an unrecognised sim card on January 16 along with the message "I love you Kate". Neither woman was called Kate and Reed-Mooney claimed they were intended for his girlfriend.
He sent a third image from his own phone on January 17 to his employer, along with the message, "I love you Kate, why didn't you reply - send me a picture of you". The number was recognised by a woman who had employed Reed-Mooney as a delivery driver.

First Grade Teacher Shows Up to School Drunk, Blows .20% BAC - Sharon Duerring, 49

Ever spent a whole day with a bunch of screaming kids that weren't your own? I'm not sure how teachers do it every day without smacking some of these little monsters, so I can almost understand why this lady showed up for work a little snockered . . . but a .20% BAC? Most people are comatose at that point . . . but maybe that's the best way to teach first grade? Here's more from KERO 23:

A first-grade teacher at a school in Valparaiso, Ind., was pulled out of her classroom and arrested Thursday for being publicly drunk, police said.
According to a report in the Post-Tribune, Sharon Duerring, 49, was taken into police custody at about 10:30 a.m. after officials at Cooks Corners Elementary called police, suspecting her intoxication. Officials had removed Deurring from the classroom before police arrived.
Police said a Breathalyzer showed Deurring had a blood alcohol level of 0.20, which is more than twice the legal limit to drive a vehicle. She was charged with public intoxication and taken in handcuffs to the Porter County Jail, according to the report.
Deurring had been a teacher for 25 years.

High School Teacher Arrested for Indecent Exposure During Sex Sting - Scott Waddell

Teachers keep getting caught in sex sting and then have to resign. This time it was a male teacher who allegedly exposed himself to a police officer during a sting. Here's more from WYFF:

A Boiling Springs High School teacher is out on bond after being arrested charged as part of a sex sting in Spartanburg County.
Scott Waddell is charged with indecent exposure and is out of jail on $5,000 bond.
He was released at about 5:30 a.m. Saturday from the Spartanburg County Detention Center, where he was jailed for about 12 hours. Deputies said that Waddell was arrested after he exposed himself Friday afternoon to an undercover officer during the sting operation near the Milliken Plant on Milliken Road.
Waddell says on his Web site that he teaches broadcast journalism and film literature at Boiling Springs High School.
The site for a gospel singing group of which Waddell is listed as member, also says that he is the visual coordinator for the Boiling Springs Band.
