Male Teacher Arrested, Cops Claim He Had Sex 20 Times Over Five Days With Girl, 18 - Allen James Cole, Travis High School
Well, I suppose if you're going to jail for having sex with a high school girl, you might as well get the most action in that you can, right? Well, at least that's what cops are accusing teacher Allen James Cole of Travis High School in Texas of doing. That's Cole's tired-ass mug shot picture at right.
Here's more from KXAN:
Austin police arrested government teacher Allen James Cole on the charge of having "an improper relationship" with an 18-year-old Travis High School student.
Another teacher notified police about the inappropriate relationship between Cole and the student. According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by KXAN.com, the student told police she had met Cole, 34, several times at his apartment between May 6 and May 10. The student told police she had sex with Cole more than 20 times over that 5-day period. The girl was able to describe the furnishings in the apartment's living room and bedroom. A search warrant confirmed the details the girl identified.

am I missing something?
18 year old woman has a relationship with a man, and the man goes to jail?
what is the age of consent again?
How would he go jail? She 18! Worst case scenario he gets fired.
If the student is 18 years old - what's the problem? Such a relationship may be against school rules, but if the student is 18 it's not illegal.
Last I knew 18 made you an adult. The word 'girl' is for minors. So while I think the man did something unethical, the worst punishment shouldn't include jail time. She's been legal in Texas since 17, she's old enough to consent. Fire the guy, suspend the woman (she knew what she was doing), and move on.
He should be fired and never teach again. But if she's 18, how could he be charged with underage sex? Unless she was under 18 when the relationship started, this wasn't illegal. There was an incident in my home state in which a teacher had an affair with one of his 18 year old students. Because she was the age of consent, no criminal charges were filed. However, he was stripped of his teaching certification (and rightfully so).
I can see the guy losing his job for sleeping with a student, but arrested? The girl is 18, I wonder what crime he was accused of.
Improper relationship maybe. But at 18, she's legal.
Let me get this straight. The girl is and was 18 at the time, correct? What's the crime? Should he be fired for violating his contract, sure. But arrested for having sex with a consenting ADULT? C'mon! This is absurd. Stop treating young adults like children and they may actually start taking responsibility for their own actions occasionally. If he wasn't her teacher, would he have been arrested?
Actually, in Texas 18 or not it is still illegal as it should be. This piece of trash abused his position of authority by taking advantage of a student. He is in an authority position, he should be held to the strictest standard of ethics.
As of 2003 in the state of Texas, it is illegal for a teacher to have sex with a high school student no matter that student's age:
IMPROPER RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EDUCATOR AND STUDENT. (a) An employee of a public or private primary or secondary school commits an offense if the employee engages in sexual contact, sexual intercourse, or deviate sexual intercourse with a person who is enrolled in a public or private primary or secondary school at which the employee works and who is not the employee's spouse.
(b) An offense under this section is a felony of the second degree.
(c) If conduct constituting an offense under this section
also constitutes an offense under another section of this code, the
actor may be prosecuted under either section or both sections.
Added by Acts 2003, 78th Leg., ch. 224, § 1, eff. Sept. 1, 2003.
with that name, the guy was destined to do something inappropriate.
He's charged with inappropriate relationship because he's in a position of power. These laws are in place to prevent the exchange of grades for sex, initiated by either party. Otherwise some creep could keep the grades of all the 18-year-old girls inexplicably low in a more subjective class such as English until they voluntarily "began a relationship" with him. And if meant college or no college, a lot of them would. This is a law that really makes a lot of sense.
He's not charged with statutory rape, the charge is "improper relationship".
Many states have laws against teacher/student, doctor/patient, lawyer/client style relationships simply because one person operates from a position of power over the other.
He's also in a contractual violation with the school most likely. The schools where I taught had forms that said any relationship with a student (regardless of age or consent) was strictly verboten.
The student/teacher relationship puts him in a position of authority where she may have felt she had no choice but to have sex with him and thus borderline rape or at least sexual assault charges.
It is illegal in Texas for a teacher to have sex with a student. This has nothing to do with her age it has to do with the integrity of the teaching environment.
In no way do I agree with what the teacher was doing, but com'on. This poor guy is gonna be labeled a sex offender for the rest of his life for sleeping with an 18 year old woman. I'm sorry, that just doesn't seem right to me.
Trouble here is, Texas age of consent is 17.
The worst this guy should get is a job loss, on conflict of interest. This is not a criminal matter.
lol doesn't it seem that only male teachers care about age when it comes to student teacher affairs? most of the time, female teachers choose 12 year-olds, its not only unlawful, buts that just wrong on so many levels
