Teacher Maggie Laughlin, 23, Arrested for Alleged Sexual Relationship With 9th Grade Boy
UPDATE: Maggie Laughlin pleaded guilty on August 13 to having illegal sexual conduct with a student this year and faces up to 18 months in prison when she is sentenced later this month. (Cleveland.com)
EARLIER STORY: The school year can't end soon enough for some principals, can it? According to police the last two weeks of school at Shore Junior High School in Mentor, Ohio were pretty special for one 15-year-old boy in first year teacher Maggie Laughlin's math class. Authorities claim sex acts between the two took place each morning--8 to 10 times during the last two weeks of class--in her room before school started just before school got out in early June. Who blew the whistle? Sounds like the mother of the victim's ex-girlfriend. Hell hath no fury like a 9th grade girl scorned. Oh, and Laughlin might have gotten away with it because she wasn't coming back next year to Shore: she was moving to Michigan this summer with her fiancé to take a new job and plan a July wedding. Oops. That's likely going to be postponed 5-6 years.

Maggie Laughlin, 23, entered no plea at her arraignment in Mentor Municipal Court and was taken to the Lake County Jail. She faces one count of sexual battery and one count of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
Bond was set at $200,000 or $100,000 for each count. Laughlin will have to post 10 percent. If convicted, she could face up to six and a half years in prison.
School officials say Laughlin resigned her position with the district on June 6 after spending less than a year in the school system. Mentor Police Chief Dan Llewellyn said that, when arrested at her Willowick home Wednesday night, Laughlin admitted to some of the details of the charges against her.
Laughlin had accepted a new teaching position in Michigan where she planned to move with her fiancé after a planned July wedding.

Oddly enough her fiance appears in the Krieg Hall Staff photo in the middle in a teal shirt. His name is Chris Nelson and he is a great guy.
You don't need to bring the fiance's name into this. I graduated with both of them and find it rude of you to even think of mentioning his name on a website. She's put a black mark on herself and that is her own fault but you do not need to drag a good guy like him into it.
Why are you leaving the name and other info about this skanks fiance on here? He didn't have anything to do with this.
Actually Maggie was a complete bitch at Heidelberg and had about 3friends including her finacee. She was not very liked so I think its funny that you would say she was a nice girl.

I find it hysterical that anyone would post a comment about how the photo does her no justice…because that is the real issue here! Berggal you should be ashamed. I completely agree with naughteegrl821. I also graduated with her and had many education classes with her. Her actions are not only embarrassingfor herself but for her fiancé, the students, and for the bad publicity that Heidelberg will receive. She deserves everything that comes to her and I hope she gets maximum time, loses her license and has to register as a sex offender the rest of her life. Teaching is a profession that is constantly criticized and it is people like her that give reasons to look down on it as a profession.

Why, why, why would you post Chris' name not only here, but on other blogs? This is the second one I've seen from you. If you actually think he's a good guy, why would you publicize this humiliating experience of his?
Chris was my one of my best friends during my freshman year at school. Berggal is right - he's an amazing guy.
But I would like to say to justme, naughteegrl821, and Bergteacher that Maggie is not a total bitch. I knew her very personally - she was my mentor at school before she graduated, and helped me through some tough things even after she left Heidelberg.
You all are leaving out the fact that she has yet to be convicted of anything. If found guilty, then maybe you will have the right to judge her, but until then, you're just the same mean girls that other girls have to defend themselves against all the time. Grow up a little.

I find it absolutely hilarious, yet totally cliche' that someone with the name naughteegirl would post that kind of comment on here.
Berggal, the picture does not do her justice and her fiance is a great guy, but I have to agree with the others, bringing his name into this isn't right.
Bergteahcer, I have never once spoke with anyone who remotely looked down on teachers...if you have, it could be possible that your the problem...
If she ends up being convicted then yes she deserves to be punished...but it's pretty much a given that she wouldn't be able to teach, and would have to register as a sex offender.
It's a bit harsh to wish all of those horrible things on someone who didn't directly hurt you or your family.
