Michigan Man Fraudulently Claims $10 Million Dollar Film Tax Credit

The State of Michigan wants to movie making to the state and offers producers a 25% tax credit if you make your film here. The key point of that law is that you ACTUALLY HAVE TO MAKE A MOVIE in the state to get the credit. You can't just claim the credit for watching that DVD you brought home from Blockbuster.

Joseph Peters, 46, is to be arraigned soon in 61st District Court near Grand Rapids on one count of attempted felony false pretenses over $20,000. The charge, which carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison, stems from an ongoing investigation into a Michigan Film Tax credit application Peters filed with the Michigan Film Office, according to a statement issued today by the Michigan Attorney General's office.

"With Michigan taxpayers already dealing with one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, it is a kick in the gut when someone tries to defraud them," Attorney General Mike Cox said in a statement.  Michigan offers a 25 percent tax credit through the Michigan Film Office for investments in movie production infrastructure.

Peters applied for a tax credit claiming his company, West Michigan Film, purchased a large film production studio, known as Hangar42, for $40 million. An investigation concluded no transfer of property ever took place, and the application was denied when Peters could not document the investment, according to the attorney general.

Teen Steals Credit Cards to Play Video Games, Leads Cops to Parents Weed Farm

There is all sorts of stupid in this story! First, you have the typically nerdy kid, Trevor Miller, needing cash to play Internet video games, so he steals a credit card. Of course, the police are able to trace the stolen cards by the purchases Miller made right to his home in Buffalo Grove, a Chicago suburb. Once there though, the kid is the least of their concern as officers find pot growing at his home. The kid's pot? No, the operation allegedly belongs to Miller's parents, James, 52, and Cindy, 50, who were both charged with unlawful production of marijuana. In the end, everyone gets arrested and we can be pretty sure that Thanksgiving at the Miller home will be a little strained this year.
Police had been investigating multiple fraudulent online orders and downloads stemming from a report of a Lincolnshire car burglary in July. In that case, the victim’s credit card was taken from his vehicle.  Lincolnshire and Buffalo Grove police departments, U.S. Postal Inspection Service agents and investigators from the Lake County State’s Attorney Office put together enough information to get a search warrant for 843 Dunhill Drive, Buffalo Grove.

Trevor Miller, 17, was determined to have been downloading online games and buying “virtual gold coins” with stolen credit cards. He was charged with identity theft, burglary, unlawful use of a credit card, computer fraud, and unlawful production of marijuana plants.

While searching the house and property, police found three marijuana plants inside and three plants outside of the house.

Teacher Arrested for DUI on Way to School

How awful must the kids in your class be to be drunk on your way in to teach in the morning? We're not excusing what Twin Cities middle school teacher Sarah Bjerke did, but you have to wonder. And she wasn't just allegedly a little tipsy: Bjerke reportedly blew a .133 % BAC, nearly twice the legal limit.
38-year-old Sarah Bjerke was headed to Crosswinds Middle School in Woodbury the morning of July 22nd when she was pulled over. According to a criminal complaint, a State Patrol trooper stopped Bjerke for speeding, but smelled alcohol. The State Patrol says Bjerke had a blood alcohol level of .133. Bjerke has two previous DWI convictions, one in January of 2008, the other from October of 2009.

School district officials say Bjerke should not have been hired in January of 2010, calling it unacceptable, but say she did go through a background check. The superintendent says Bjerke is no longer with the district because of prior disciplinary problems unrelated to the DWI arrest.

Hot Female Teacher, 34, Accused of Sex With Underage Student - Diana Eckes Canter

Another day, another hot looking female teacher accused of sexing up one of her male students. This time, the story comes to us from Christiansburg, VA where the teacher, Diana Eckes Canter, is charged with 8 counts of "custodial sexual intercourse with a minor." Does that mean she was wearing a ring of keys on her belt when they had sex? Or maybe she was sprinkling sawdust on some vomit while they did it? Any lawyers out there know what "custodial sex" is?
Diana Eckes Canter, a former Christiansburg High School teacher, is facing charges of having sex with a student.  Christiansburg police say 34-year-old is charged with eight counts of custodial sexual intercourse with a minor.  Police believe none of the alleged incidents occurred on school property and say the incidents happened between Dec. 2008 and Aug. 2009.

The alleged victim is no longer a student in the Christiansburg school system.  Police say Canter resigned her position as an 11th grade English teacher on Tuesday.

Thanks Mom! Angry Teen Spikes Moms Kook-Aid With Lysol

Kids these days! This one reportedly got into an argument with her mother, and after thinking it over for a couple of days, then allegedly put some Lysol cleaner into her Kool-Aid.  No so clever, but it did fool mom who drank some of it and then called 911.
A New Hampshire teenager was arrested after allegedly spiking her mother's Kool-Aid with Lysol and burning her throat with the tainted drink, MyFoxBoston reported.  Police say 17-year-old Brittany Merrill poisoned the drink to get back at her mother for an argument they had at home two days before.

Merrill was charged with misdemeanor reckless conduct and arraigned Monday at a court in Hampton, N.H., MyFoxBoston reported.  Merrill's mother detected stopped drinking the Kool-Aid and called 911 after her throat began burning, police said. Emergency responders arrived at the home at about 1:30 a.m., though the victim did not want to be taken to the hospital.

Mother of Three, 40, Accused of Having Sex With Male Friends of Teenaged Daughter - Cathleen Miller

How do people get caught in these situations today? Via Facebook, of course. Seems that the daughter of the accused, Cathleen M. Miller, walked in on mom allegedly having sex with one of the boys. He, of course apologized to her . . . on Facebook.

Duh!

Here.s more from The Chicago Sun Times:
Cathleen M. Miller, 40, of the 5800 block of West 109th Street, is charged with three counts of criminal sexual assault and one count of criminal sexual abuse. Miller, the mother of three daughters, the oldest of whom is 14, is accused of having sexual intercourse with two of the boys.
She allegedly molested the boys in her home between February and June, said Andy Conklin, a spokesman for the Cook County state's attorney's office. The alleged sexual abuse came to light several weeks ago after one of the boys wrote an apology to Miller's teen daughter on Facebook, Olson said. The girl had allegedly walked in on them. His parents saw the message and went to police, Olson said.

Teacher Accused of Sex With Boy More Than 100 Times May Also Have Cost Kid Spot on National Honor Society

Former Michigan teacher Marcie L. Rousseau has gained national fame for allegedly having a two year relationship with a male student starting when he was sixteen. According to some reports the pair "got it on" more than 100 times. But now comes word that another student may have had his application to the National Honor Society sidetracked by Rousseau because she thought he knew of her affair.

Not exactly the best example of bribing a kid we've ever heard of, but then again we don't have our teaching certificates, so what do we know? Here's more on the story from MLive.com:
Saginaw County Prosecutor Michael D. Thomas said authorities aren’t done investigating a former Freeland High School teacher charged with 29 sex crimes against a male student.  Marcie L. Rousseau, 33, of 10065 Shane in Thomas Township, faces 21 counts in Saginaw County and eight counts in Midland County.

“There’s only one (alleged victim) right now, but the investigation is ongoing, and I can’t really talk about the facts of the case,” Thomas said. “We’re still talking with witnesses, and we’ll continue to do that. We’ll call other students to testify at (Rousseau’s) preliminary examination.”

The teacher is accused of engaging in sex acts with the student from May 2009 through February. The student was between 16 and 18 at the time, Midland County District Court documents show.

“This particular defendant has been charged with violating the law because she engaged in these acts with a 16-year-old boy, and later he turned 17, but if you’re 18, this particular law doesn’t apply in those circumstances,” Thomas said.  “That’s something I’m going to look at, with our legislative branch of state government, to try to close that loophole.”  Rousseau, meanwhile, “seems very remorseful” about the accusations, said Bruce A. Goetz, a bail-bond agency worker representing her.

Mother of the Year Finalist Takes Cops on High Speed Chase With Daughter in Car

What's worse than having your mom arrested for stealing purses from other women at the store? Having to sit in the back seat while she tries to elude the cops during a high speed chase.
A 36-year-old woman is due in court to answer charges she stole purses from customers at stores in Salem, N.H., and then led police on a vehicle chase with her 12-year-old daughter in the car.  Police say Maria Molina, of Lawrence, Mass., stole purses from customers from at least three stores by grabbing the purses from shopping carts when the owners would look away.

On Saturday police spotted a car driven by a woman who matched the description of the suspect.  Molina apparently refused to stop and hit a car and a telephone pole while fleeing police.
